When to seek counselling?

There are many stages of life and issues that a couple may traverse during their relationship.  The following are some of the reasons you may choose to pursue couples counselling:

  • Feeling distant
  • Trust issues
  • Intimacy concerns
  • Infidelity
  • Communication issues
  • Parenting issues
  • Financial issues
  • Children leaving home
  • Adjustments to separation
  • Coping with other family members
  • Retirement
  • And more

Conflict and tension are common in all relationships.  As couples move through various issues and stages, they can find themselves having difficulty remaining connected and fond of one another.  Please contact us for help in improving your relationship.

What you can expect in Couples Counselling:

Your therapist will work to understand the problem (s) or issue (s) according to each partner.  The therapist will help you identify areas of strength and deficits in the relationship, as well as collaboratively set goals to work towards.

One of the general goals may be to help you achieve a renewed sense of trust, fondness, respect, and loving support for one another.  The therapist will guide you to make the changes required to improve your emotional bond and relationship satisfaction.

What if your partner doesn’t want to come to counselling?

If your partner does not want to participate in couples counselling, our therapists can still assist you on an individual basis.  In these situations, the therapist will offer suggestions and support related to changes that you can make, which in turn, can make a difference in your relationship.  Further, the therapist can support you individually related to your concerns about your relationship.
