  • Registered Social Worker, OCSWSSW #821197

Frances D’Amato is a Registered Social Worker with the OCSWSSW (Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers) and OASW (Ontario Association of Social Workers). Frances holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from York University and a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Toronto.

Frances has been providing psychotherapy and counselling services for over 14 years and has received education and training in various therapy modalities such as cognitive behavioural therapy, trauma-focused cognitive behavioural therapy, enhanced cognitive behavioural therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, narrative therapy, brief solution-focused therapy, family therapy, crisis intervention and cyber counselling. She is committed to expanding her knowledge of various therapies through research and participation in training workshops.

Frances has provided psychotherapy and counselling services to children, adolescents, adults, couples and families for a range of issues such as anxiety, depression, postpartum depression, sexual abuse, poor body image, eating disorders, addictions, low self-esteem, loss and grief and other mental health concerns. Frances believes that each person is a unique individual with their own personality, thoughts, feelings, and experiences. In therapy, she views her client as the expert of their life. It is her responsibility to attentively listen to the client in a non-judgemental way and provide time and a safe space for them as they share their thoughts, perceptions, feelings and experiences with her.

Frances believes that each person has strengths and the capacity to make changes in order to improve their overall well-being. By working collaboratively with the client, Frances assists the client in recognizing their strengths, gaining insights, enhancing existing skills and learning new skills that will allow the client to overcome challenges, resolve their own issues and heal. Frances believes that recovery is possible.
